Sheriff’s association introduces character training

There is no denying that over the years there have been sheriff’s offices from across the state under fire for questionable, even illegal behavior by employees.

With that in mind the Oklahoma Sheriff’s Association Conference is holding its first ever character-based training program. The two-day class runs until 5 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Biltmore Hotel, 401 S. Meridian Avenue in Oklahoma City.

Police Dynamics and Character First will be taught by Franklin Smith, president of Character Focus Incorporated. The Police Dynamics program is a series of character-based principles, known as “dynamics,” that are designed to empower law enforcement to be more effective in both their professional and personal lives. The principles are universal in their application and can be applied to virtually any relationship.

The character training is a two-day event (16 hours), and is certified by the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training. This is the largest conference class, with nearly 70 people from 43 county agencies set to attend. The course was paid for by Oklahoma City’s Character First.
