Cherokee County prosecutors dismissed a misdemeanor assault and battery charged Wednesday against an Oklahoma State University defensive tackle.
Court documents show the state sought the dismissal of the charges against Christian Littlehead, a 6-2, 312-pound sophomore defensive lineman. Littlehead played in 12 games for OSU in the 2011 season. He recorded four starts.
Littlehead was accused of punching a woman in the face after a dispute at a birthday party in March.
Littlehead has been practicing with the team, and participated in Saturday’s scrimmage.
Oklahoma State University football coach Mike Gundy said Saturday night that he was gathering information about the March birthday party incident, but wouldn’t make a decision about Littlehead’s status with the team until he had the facts.
“I’ve always followed the policy that guys are relatively innocent until proven guilty,” Gundy said. “And that’s the only way we can do things. Oklahoma State people have to trust that once I get all the information, I’m going to do what’s best for this school. But I can’t always just assume somebody is guilty until I gather all the information.”
Gundy was unavailable for comment on Wednesday.
Littlehead didn’t play in the Jan. 1 Fiesta Bowl because he was suspended from team after being charged with a misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Littlehead pleaded guilty to that charge. He was fined $150, ordered to complete a drug and alcohol evaluation and to perform 15 hours of community service.

Feds approve Oklahoma’s request for winter storm aid

A McAlester couple faces felony child abuse and neglect charges after officials this week found burns and bruises on the body and head of their 2-year-old son.
Kyle Daniel Hoppe, 31, and Destiny Hope Kelley, 20, of McAlester, was charged March 27 in Pittsburg County District Court. Hoppe is charged with felony child abuse by injury and child neglect. Officials looking for man who called in Tahlequah bomb threat
Several hundred people were evacuated from the Cherokee County Courthouse Wednesday morning, just before 9, after a man called in a bomb threat.
The caller phoned the courthouse and ended up talking with Laura Hendricks, a deputy clerk in the County Clerk’s Office. Hendricks said the man told her he was “tired of paying [his] f---ing fines” and then claimed there was a bomb in the courthouse.
Hendricks said she notified a safety manager, and a panic button in the courthouse was then pushed to notify other offices of the threat. -
