Ex-softball player dies

NORMAN — A memorial service for a former University of Oklahoma softball player has been scheduled for Thursday in Norman.

According to a news release from OU Athletics officials, 26-year-old Mariee Mena died Tuesday from injuries she sustained in a motorcycle accident Friday night in Norman.

Calls to Norman police and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for details of the accident were not immediately returned.

Mena, a native of Escondido, Calif., was a member of Oklahoma's 2007 Big 12 Championship squad and of the Sooners' 2003 and 2004 Women's College World Series teams.

She was named national Player of the Week in February 2007 after hitting .692 with eight RBIs at the Palm Springs Tournament.
