Managing contractor for jail chosen

WOODWARD — Woodward County officials have chosen a managing contractor for the construction of the new county jail.

The Woodward County Public Facilities Authority selected Joe D. Hall General Contractors of Elk City.

Sheriff Gary Stanley says the company previously helped build jails in Custer and Beckham counties.

The company will receive 8.5 percent, or $850,000, of the estimated $10 million cost of building the jail.

As construction manager, Hall will oversee the various contracting companies that perform the actual building of the jail, which will be paid for by a county-wide sales tax increase that goes into effect Jan. 1.

The county received a notice recently about overcrowding at the old facility.
