Man burns self to death after authorities arrive

TULSA — Tulsa County authorities say a convicted sex offender burned himself to death when authorities went to his home to serve a warrant.

Capt. John Brown says 47-year-old Johnnie Joe Hobbs died Thursday of smoke inhalation after pouring gasoline in the van he was sitting in then setting it on fire.

Deputies and state Pardon and Parole Board officers had gone to Hobbs' home to serve a protective order against him and to revoke his suspended sentence and arrest him.

Hobbs had past convictions of showing obscene material to a child, lewd molestation and making lewd proposals to a child.
