The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the fatal shooting of a suspect by Cushing police.
Police officers shot 18-year-old Rabih Ozeir mulitple times at about 7 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of Simpsons Chiropractic, 1523 E. Main St.
Ozier was taken to Hillcrest Hospital in Cushing. He was transferred to Saint John’s Trauma Center in Tulsa for further treatment.
He died in the Tulsa hospital early Friday morning.
Officers responded to a disturbance at the office, according to a police report. Ozeir pointed a handgun and threatened the officers. The officers asked Ozeir to drop his weapon. When he refused, officers shot Ozeir multiple times.
The Cushing Police Chief requested OSBI to investigate the shooting. Such an investigation includes interviewing the officers, interviewing any witnesses to the confrontation and shooting, collecting evidence at the scene, and photographing the crime scene.
The OSBI will compile this information and produce a written report of the facts in the case. This report will be presented to the District Attorney and the Cushing Police Chief as soon as possible. The District Attorney will determine whether the shooting was justified.
The officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, pending outcome of the Investigation. The officers’ names are not being released because of the investigation, according to the report.
