UCO announces 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients

EDMOND — The University of Central Oklahoma Alumni Association will recognize five recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Central Family of the Year during the 2012 Alumni Recognition Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 2 in the Grand Ballrooms of the Nigh University Center.

This year’s distinguished UCO alumni include Trey Aven, an associate professor and special assistant to the Office of International Cooperation at Xiamen University of Technology in the People’s Republic of China; Chuck Mills, president of Mills Machine Co.; Dana Murphy, Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner; Chad Richison, chief executive officer of Paycom; and Randall Ross, executive director of the Oklahoma Accountancy Board and mayor of Choctaw.

A committee of UCO alumni board members selected the recipients based on peer recommendations and notable accomplishments in one of three categories: professional, community service and university service. The UCO Alumni Association has given the awards annually since 1952.

“Homecoming has become one of our most favorite times of the year,” said Al Jones, director of the UCO Alumni Association.

“Each time I am humbled by the wonderful things our alumni are out doing in the world, and this group is no exception. They make all of us proud to call Central our home.”

At the reception, the association also will honor the Dub Raper family as the 2012 Central Family of the Year. The award is given annually to a family who has a long line of members who have attended and/or graduated from UCO and continue to stay involved with the university.

The reception will include a formal awards presentation with video highlights of the honorees’ lifetime accomplishments as well as an opportunity to reconnect with alumni.

The UCO Alumni Association promotes the general welfare of UCO through its members, while also strengthening the relationship and communication among graduates, current students, faculty, staff and friends of the university.
