OSUIT partners with OG&E to establish energy scholarship

Special to The Sun

OKMULGEE — OGE Energy Corp., Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee and OSU-Oklahoma City have partnered to create a unique scholarship opportunity aimed at increasing the diversity of candidates entering the energy workforce in Oklahoma. The OGE Energy Scholarship will award up to $1 million in scholarships over five years and cover tuition, books and fees for qualified participants.

“OGE Energy has provided OSUIT students with a tremendous opportunity,” says OSUIT president Dr. Bill Path. “The fact that the scholarship is directly linked to one of Oklahoma’s premier employers is outstanding.”

In addition to the scholarship, some students may be selected for paid summer internships at OGE’s subsidiaries, Oklahoma Gas & Electric and Enogex, and others may be offered jobs upon graduation.

“It’s not often that a scholarship will pay for a degree program from start to finish with an opportunity for a job upon graduation,” Path said. “This is the complete package.”

According to Pete Delaney, chairman, CEO and president of OGE Energy Corp, the scholarship benefits OGE as well as the students.

“For OGE to reach its full potential, we need a diverse workforce that can bring the creativity and problem-solving skills necessary to provide better solutions for our customers, shareholders and communities,” he said.

Students can qualify for the OGE Energy Scholarship by choosing to major in one of the following programs at OSUIT:

• Electrical/Electronics Technology (AAS)

• High Voltage Technology (AAS)

• Instrumentation Engineering Technology (BT)

• Natural Gas Compression (AAS)

• Power Plant Technology (AAS)

OSUIT and OSU-OKC have partnered with OGE for many years to meet the growing demand for productive and efficient technicians in the energy and power industry.
