EDMOND —
The University of Central Oklahoma Art Department will open an exhibit titled “Colors of Dreams” with a reception from 4-6 p.m. Feb. 16 in the Donna Nigh Gallery on the fourth floor of the UCO Nigh University Center.
The exhibit, curated by Bob Palmer, Ph.D., UCO professor of painting and photographic arts, will showcase paintings created by Shikoh Shiraiwa, Central alumna and professional artist. Other artworks created by Darrol Reddick, Central graduate, and Alexis Brittany Piper, Central art student, will be displayed as well.
Shiraiwa’s work has been featured in various exhibitions, art shows and businesses across the Oklahoma City metro and in New York City. Specifically, his artwork has been displayed in OU Medical Center and in the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition’s annual art show “Momentum.”
This past September, his work appeared in the West Side Arts Coalition’s exhibition “Fall: Rising Above 911” in New York City. Shiraiwa showcased a painting titled “Like the Stars that Shine in the Darkest Universe,” which illustrates how humankind ultimately rises above pain and prejudice. This piece will also be on display in “Colors of Dreams.”
“I think the public will really enjoy the diversity of talent we produce and will find the show inspiring, thought-provoking and fun,” Palmer said.
The exhibit will be on display through March 29 and is free and open to the public. Many of the pieces will be available for purchase.
