EDMOND — George Nigh, both a former governor of Oklahoma and president of the University of Central Oklahoma, will share his personal experience and insight on what makes leadership last a lifetime during “Lunch with a Leader” from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in the Oklahoma Room (Room 211) located in Oklahoma State University’s Student Center in Stillwater.
Hosted by Central’s Center for Professional and Distance Education (CPDE) and Central Rural Electric Cooperative (CREC), “Lunch with a Leader” is a part of the seminar series “Being Accountable to Lead,” offering Oklahomans multiple opportunities to further develop their leadership skills.
“People who attend the luncheon will have a firsthand view of one of the most true and trusted leaders in our state’s history. Nigh’s love of life, people and family is evident in everything he does, and he is steadfast to his beliefs,” said Kati Schmidt, CPDE’s director of professional education and Nigh’s former assistant.
“As a true leader, Nigh is someone people want to follow. He has such strong character and integrity which has built great trust and respect with people which makes a wonderful leader.”
Nigh was the first Oklahoma governor to be elected to two terms, and at age 31, he was the youngest lieutenant governor ever elected in the state.
Nigh served as Central’s president from 1992 to 1997, and he and his wife Donna have both been inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.
An open question and answer forum will follow Nigh’s presentation.
“Lunch with a Leader” will conclude the seminars for 2009. They are scheduled to begin again on Feb. 11 with a seminar led by Steve Kreidler, Central’s executive vice president.
Other future seminars will be led by additional Central faculty including Dr. Reneé Warning, Dr. Lon Dehnert and Dr. Darian De Bolt.
The seminar series is offered through LeadershipSource, developed by CREC to build leadership in organizations and individuals.
LeadershipSource has partnered with Central to offer this seminar series focused on leadership called LeadershipSource University.
