UCO receives award for United Way collaboration

Special to The Sun

EDMOND — Oklahoma Campus Compact recently honored the University of Central Oklahoma with its first Outstanding Community and Campus Collaboration Award for the university’s collaboration with the United Way of Central Oklahoma in establishing the Community Partnership Matching Grant Program.

Initiated in 2010, the grant program provides support for research projects that partner Central faculty and students with community organizations in the Oklahoma City metro area. The projects must foster educational and learning experiences for faculty and students in addition to strengthening existing partnerships and creating new partnerships.

“The Community Partnership Matching Grant Program has resulted in positive collaborations between Central and an array of community organizations in the Edmond and Oklahoma City metropolitan areas,” said Greg Wilson, executive director of the Office of Research and Grants at Central.

“We are sincerely appreciative to the United Way of Central Oklahoma for their generous support of this program.”

Together, Central and the United Way funded five projects during the 2010-11 academic year.

Through one of those projects, students from Central’s graphic design program donated a “brand identity package” to the Metropolitan Better Living Center in Oklahoma City. The center, an adult day care facility, received a logo, letterhead, newsletter template and Web design services along with various other branding tools.

A program of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, OkCC is part of Campus Compact, a national member organization in Boston. OkCC supports its members in developing college students’ awareness and skills in civic participation.
