UCO students receive awards

EDMOND — University of Central Oklahoma students Paul Brown, Joyclin Jaksons and Ben Ryan received University Scholastic Awards recognizing their exceptional work during the academic year of 2011-12.

The University Scholastic Awards are given every year to students who earn the highest GPA during their combined fall and spring semesters. Awards are given to the top freshman female and male and one is given to the top upperclassman.

Brown, a chemistry major from Waurika, was awarded a Freshman University Scholastic Award after completing 33 credit hours with a 4.0 GPA.

Jaksons, a criminal justice major from North Pole, Alaska, earned a Freshman University Scholastic Award for completing 40 hours and maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

Ryan, who is from Butte, Mont., received the Upperclassman Scholastic Award for achieving an overall GPA of 4.0 while taking 39 hours. He graduated in May with a degree in industrial safety.

Each recipient is given a commemorative plaque and a $500 tuition waiver or $100 Barnes and Noble Bookstore gift certificate.
