The National Weather Service Norman website will continue showing in-depth weather information, even after the “enhanced page” link goes away Monday.
Rick Smith, warning coordination meteorologist at the Weather Forecast Office in Norman, said Thursday that all graphics on the enhanced weather page will be shown in a new format on the website’s main front page or linked elsewhere on the site.
The website’s address is www.weather.gov/norman.
The Norman office is getting new computer hardware, Smith said, and the website changes will allow the office “to interface between our work stations and getting the information onto the website.”
The upgrade will allow the NWS Norman website to show larger graphics with higher resolutions, along with radar and satellite loops and text captions with the improved maps, that cannot be done on the current page.
The page also will have file folder tabs on the main page’s graphic to click for additional types of updated information.
“It’s a change, but there will be a banner headline on top of the page and the tabs can be updated and renamed, which is something we can’t do now,” Smith said.
Earlier Thursday, Smith wrote an email to assure people who visit the National Weather Service Norman website that the information they count on will not be diminished.
“We know that the information on the enhanced page is extremely valuable,” he wrote, “and we want you to know that you’ll still be able to get that same information — it will just look a little different and be on a different page.”
