EDMOND — The State Chamber of Oklahoma brought a delegation from China to Pelco Products Inc. on Friday afternoon during the delegation’s three-day tour in the Oklahoma City area. “For 20 plus years, we have been developing a relationship with China,” said Richard P. Rush, president and chief executive officer of the state chamber.
As a result, the state chamber has two sister state chambers in China. The leadership from the chamber in Liaoning, a province east of Beijing, came to Oklahoma City to look at Oklahoma products they might purchase. “We’re trying to sell our materials from all over Oklahoma to China,” Rush said. The group arrived at Pelco after a business meeting and lunch at UPS.
“We are the only manufacturer in Oklahoma they’re visiting on this trip,” said Mark Nash, Pelco operations manager. Nash said the delegation showed interest in visiting Pelco because the company is the industry leader in traffic signal hardware in North America. Members of the Chinese delegation included lighting and electric company representatives.
“We’re looking for more international markets to get into,” said Nash, who said Edmond-based Pelco now sells its products to 14 countries outside the U.S. “As the import business from Asia continues to grow,” Nash said, “we’re obviously looking to turn that around and attempt to sell our product.”
He said the company president, Phil Parduhn, has been on several trade delegations that have gone to China.
