Police investigate weekend bomb threats to Walmarts

EDMOND — Reports of bomb threats received by two Walmart stores in Edmond and two other locations in Oklahoma City during the weekend are being investigated, police said.

At 1:04 a.m. Saturday, a bomb threat was reported by the Walmart at 2200 W. Danforth Road, according to the Edmond Police Department’s incident log. A second threat was received by the same store later that day at 4 p.m.  

At 3:54 p.m. Saturday, a bomb threat was reported by the Walmart at 1225 W. I-35 Frontage Rd., according to the incident log.

Police spokeswoman Jenny Monroe said the bomb threats are connected and are being investigated. The Edmond Walmart stores were not the only metro locations targeted, Monroe said.

Further details about the threats related to the Edmond stores were not immediately available.

KOCO reported that Oklahoma City detectives were investigating a bomb threat reported at about 4 p.m. by the Walmart store in the 7800 block of Northwest Expressway.

A second threat was reported at about 9 p.m. at the Walmart located in the 6100 block of W. Reno Ave., KOCO reported. According to officers the male callers told an employee four bombs were inside the store, one of which was in apparel, and another in sporting goods.

No bombs were found and no injuries were reported in either Oklahoma City incident. No arrests have been made as of Monday evening. Both stores remained open for business after the incidents were resolved.
