EDMOND — Local bank executive Jill Castilla is Prosperity Bank’s 2013 Woman of the Year.

Castilla received the honor during the Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce’ annual awards banquet Friday night on the University of Central Oklahoma campus. Presenters were Prosperity Bank’s Angie Johnson and 2012 Woman of the Year award recipient Victoria Caldwell.

“I’m simply overwhelmed,” Castilla said as she received the award, noting the quality of the finalists. “I was just blessed to be part of such an esteemed group. This is such a special night for me to have my bank family here and my family here.”

Castilla thanked her mentor, C.H. Wyatt, and praised the board of directors of Citizens Bank of Edmond, a fixture in Edmond for more than 100 years. Castilla said bank staff are honored to be a part of Edmond and are working toward the next 100 years.

In 2008, the chamber created a new award to recognize outstanding local businesswomen, and Prosperity Bank wanted to be part of it, Johnson said.

Caldwell said the award process began in the fall with receiving a record-number of nominations from chamber members. Caldwell said a selection committee narrowed candidates to four finalists: Castilla; Lester, Loving & Davies’ Shannon Davies; UCO’s Beth Kerr; and Mercy Health’s Di Smalley.

“This process just reiterated to me how many outstanding women we have in our community,” Caldwell said.

In 2009, Castilla joined Citizens Bank of Edmond and she represents the fourth generation of her family to work there. Caldwell said Castilla was tasked with protecting bank capital and leading it through a challenging period. Through Castilla’s efforts, the bank was received an outpouring of recognition and support, Caldwell said.

Castilla has mentored women workers and five of the six members of the bank’s executive team are women, Caldwell said. Last year, the bank was named one of the most influential on social media, Caldwell said.

Earlier in her career, Castilla served on the senior management team of Grand Rapids State Bank in Grand Rapids, Minn. For nine years, she managed numerous departments at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City in both the Oklahoma City and Kansas City offices.

Castilla serves on the Oklahoma Council on Economic Education's Board of Directors and the UCO College of Business Administration's Advisory Council. She and her husband Marcus have three children.
