EDMOND —
The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile made two stops in Edmond this past weekend, encouraging residents to sing the Oscar Mayer jingle for a whistle and take a look inside the 27-foot-long hot dog.
The Wienermobile went to Crest Foods at 2200 S.W. 15th St. and Uptown Grocery Co. at 1230 W. Covell Rd. Hotdoggers Abraham Luna and Emma Cuellar make up the south team that drives the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.
Victoria Holland didn’t know that the Weinermobile was in town and was thrilled when she pulled into Crest Foods parking lot. Holland has often wondered what the inside of the Weinermobile entailed so she was excited to get a peek inside.
“How can you not smile when you see the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile?” Holland asked.
Holland also showed her enthusiasm by singing the Oscar Mayer Wiener jingle for a whistle.
Each year, Oscar Mayer recruits Hotdoggers at campuses across the United States looking to hire approaching college graduates who want the opportunity to travel the country and meet new people.
Luna, whose Hotdogger name is Abe the Ham, was recruited from his Alma matter at the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, Texas. And his fellow Hotdogger, Cuellar known as Sal-Emy, was recruited from University of Texas in Austin.
Luna and Cuellar began traveling as Hotdoggers in June 2012.
“I am very sad that our time as Hotdoggers is about to come to an end but I have gained a lot of experience with recruiting and human resources,” Luna said.
Luna and Cuellar began their journey in Madison, Wis., and now cover Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
“My favorite part about this job is making people smile,” Luna said. “I love when we are driving the Weinermobile across the highways and people have a blank expression just looking down at the road but when they see the Weinermobile their whole face lights up.”
The Weinermobile makes a different stop every week. When they left Edmond on Sunday their next stop was set for Dallas.
There are 12 Hotdoggers who make up six teams that are currently traveling the highways of America. The 12 Hotdoggers were selected from more than 1,200 applicants for this one-year opportunity with Oscar Mayer to drive the iconic Wienermobile vehicles.
