Broncho sports receives giant lift

University of Central Oklahoma's Connor Pulley (81) snatches a pass in the 2015 season.

The University of Central Oklahoma athletic department shattered fundraising records during the fiscal year of 2015-16, raising $5,076,195 in gifts for its annual fund and Complete the Dream fundraising campaign. The previous fundraising record was $444,883 in 2013.

“We’re so grateful for the support of so many alumni and former student-athletes at such a critical time in the life of this program,” Athletic Director Joe Muller said. “The Complete the Dream campaign has inspired alumni. To have this much success so quickly speaks to the loyalty and pride felt by so many for this program. The momentum we have right now is undeniable.”

Commitments of nearly $12 million have been secured for the Complete the Dream campaign, the most ambitious fundraising initiative in UCO athletics history. It is the result of a comprehensive Master Facilities Plan in development since 2011. The plan includes several phases, and when complete, will be a showcase not only for the university, but for the City of Edmond and the Oklahoma City metro area too.

The first stage of construction is underway on the softball stadium. New spectator seating, locker rooms and coaches offices along with public restrooms and a press box are currently in the works to make the home of the 2013 national champion Bronchos one of the best in the country.

As soon as work is done on the softball stadium, construction will move to the north end zone of the football field where a new Sports Performance Center will be built. State-of-the-art athletic training and weight training areas, locker rooms, theatre, nutrition center, student-athlete lounge, offices and donor/letter-winner gathering areas will be included.

Most importantly, a dedicated Academic Enhancement Center featuring tutoring rooms as well as classrooms will benefit all student-athletes. The approximately 45,000-square-foot facility will also possess locker rooms and film rooms for football.

WITH nearly 80 percent of the Complete the Dream campaign goal satisfied, the push now is to finish off the campaign in the coming year so that Phase II construction may begin. Phase II includes an indoor training center, wrestling complex and track and field complex. Those interested in supporting the student-athletes at Central Oklahoma, both present and future, can donate as well. Visit or call the athletic department at 974-2500.
