As Edmond high school seniors stepped across the stage at the Cox Center in Oklahoma City in three separate commencement ceremonies May 16, they were led by the valedictorians and salutatorians at their respective schools. In the Edmond Public Schools there were 1,636 seniors graduating. North had the largest class with 595, Santa Fe 551 and Memorial 501 students.
Deer Creek High School graduated 289 seniors May 15 at the Cox Center.
Oklahoma Christian School had 65 graduating seniors and Oklahoma Christian Academy had 31.
While Memorial students received $12,549,155 in scholarship offers, Memorial’s Principal Justin Coffelt said students accepted a little more than $7 million in scholarships.
According to school counselors, North seniors received $13,400,483 in scholarship offers with students accepting $5,853,923. Santa Fe seniors were offered $4,213,516 in scholarships. Combined, the 2015 Edmond graduates have been offered nearly $27 million in scholarships with more scholarship dollars coming in daily, said Susan Parks-Schlepp, director of public information/community relations.
“In addition, the results of the 2015 senior exit survey for Edmond seniors show that 90 percent of graduates plan to attend either a four- or two-year college,” Parks-Schlepp added.

Of Memorial High School’s 501 seniors, 28 graduated with valedictorian honors and 14 graduated as salutatorians. North High School had 567 seniors with 45 valedictorians and 12 salutatorians. Santa Fe High School had 551 seniors and graduated 33 valedictorians and eight salutatorians.
Memorial, North and Santa Fe high schools’ valedictorians are required to carry a 4.0 overall grade average and valedictorians with distinction are students with a 4.0 who have taken five or more Advanced Placement classes.
Salutatorians are students who have had only one B on their transcript from the ninth through the 12th grade.
In the Edmond school district, students must maintain the highest grade-point average through the fall semester prior to graduation. Designation of the valedictorian and salutatorian honors are based upon a 4-point grading scale. All grades are averaged including all repeated courses.
Memorial High School

“Students at Deer Creek High School must have a 4.1254 cumulative weighted GPA in order to be a valedictorian,” said Deer Creek High School Principal Melissa Jordan. Deer Creek does not recognize salutatorians.
Deer Creek graduated 289 students, 37 of which earned valedictorian status.

Oklahoma Christian Academy had 31 seniors graduate with five valedictorians who earned a 4.0 and above. Advanced Placement classes are taught at OCA.

Guthrie High School
Guthrie High School had 214 seniors in the 2015 graduating class and AP courses are offered to students.
