Team Monarch is about to challenge cancer by pedal and on foot. The team, consisting of five Edmond residents and one Oklahoma City resident, is heading to Austin for Lance Armstrong’s LIVESTRONG Challenge on Saturday and Sunday. The event features bike rides from 10-100 miles and a 5k walk/run.

Team Monarch team members include Tom and Sheri Dougherty, Dr. Tom Teasdale, Rusty and Jan Fees and Michelle Magan.

The LIVESTRONG Challenge is the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s signature fundraising event. Armstrong is a cancer survivor who won seven consecutive Tour de France’s, after battling cancer. His incredible story has inspired millions across the world and he is now one of the world’s most recognizable public figures.

Tom Dougherty initiated team Monarch in memory of his 4-year old niece, Briksten Dougherty. All members have been touched by cancer in some form or another; one member is celebrating her third year of being cancer free.
