High traffic volume demand on the exit and entrance ramps at U.S. Interstate 35 and Covell Road has accelerated the need to improve the area’s traffic signals and turn lanes with 100% city funds, said Larry Stevens, city manager.
“We have allocated $3 million from the 2000 Capital Improvements Sales Tax to get this project accomplished,” Stevens said.
This section of town is experiencing major growth stemming from the openings of the Hilton Garden Inn and ShowBiz Cinema as well as dining out opportunities on Covell just west of I-35.
The exits and entrance ramps are being designed by Triad Design Group. A bid letting for the project is anticipated by the end of 2019, Stevens said.
