An Edmond man was involved in a collision at 3:14 p.m. Thursday about 17 miles west of Checotah in McIntosh County.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Daniel Eaton reports that Dallas Gandy, 70, of Edmond, was driving westbound on U.S. Interstate 40 during heavy rain when he lost control of the 2019 Nissan Altima he was driving and hydroplaned off the right side of the roadway, striking a tree.

Gandy was uninjured in the collision; however, a passenger, James Soulsby, 74, was transported to St. Johns Hospital in Tulsa by the Checotah EMS where he was admitted in stable condition.

Cause of the collision was cited as “unsafe speed in rain or wet roadway.”
