(Editor's Note — This story was updated as new information came from the City of Edmond.)
The Edmond railroad crossing on 15th St. west of Broadway and east of Fretz Avenue is currently closed for upgrades. The work is expected to take several days with cooperative weather.
Work was underway at approximately 7 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, and is projected to be completed the end of the day Friday, Aug. 2. Traffic will not be able to pass in either direction, and motorists will need to find an alternate route.
Casey Moore, City of Edmond director of marketing and public relations, said BNSF has notified the city of their intention to extend this closure. This extension will allow for a total rebuild of the crossing to include replacing railroad ties, replacing the driving surface and installing pedestrian crossings for the quiet zone project.
