McLOUD — The Edmond Santa Fe powerlifting team took home the Class 6A state runner-up trophy and the Wolves boasted an individual state champion March 13 at McLoud High School.

Mustang ended up the team state champion — just seven points ahead of the Wolfpack — and Santa Fe’s Jacob Goss corralled the Super Heavyweight individual state crown. Goss had a record-breaking deadlift at 660 pounds giving him the Outstanding Deadlift, Outstanding Squat and Outstanding Lifter awards. He totalled 1,695 pounds.

“Santa Fe has been powerlifting for only six years and all of our lifters are juniors, sophomores and freshmen,” said Santa Fe coach Andy Rasmussen. “We hope to return to the state meet next year and win the state championship.”

Wolf fourth-place finishers included Vessy Parrish (Super Heavyweight) and Chris Russell (168 pounds). Fifth-placers were Cameron Walker (198) and Wesley Williams (123).

Landing a silver medal was Santa Fe’s J.R. Bryson (198).
