UPDATE: The intersection reconstruction work taking place at 15th and Santa Fe has been extended and is now scheduled for completion on Thursday, Aug. 29. The contractor is working extended hours in evenings and weekends to finish the project as expeditiously as possible.
Edmond police have been enforcing cut through traffic in area parking lots to ensure safety. Additionally, the police department will have an increased presence in the area when public schools begin the fall semester on August 16.
Beginning Tuesday, contractors will reconstruct the concrete intersection located at 15th St. and Santa Fe Ave. The project will last approximately seven weeks with cooperative weather and has a scheduled completion date of Aug. 12.
During the work, traffic will be reduced to one lane in all directions and driveways will be closed periodically. Traffic signals will be reprogrammed to allow one direction proceed at a time in order to allow for safe left turns. Motorists should expect significant delays when traveling through the intersection and are encouraged to find an alternate route if possible.
The contractor for the project is A-Tech Paving. The total cost of the intersection reconstruction is $796,240.00.
