The Oklahoma City Thunder will host an open audition for the 2015-16 Thunder Girls dance team Saturday at the INTEGRIS Blue Development Center in Edmond. Auditions will begin at 10 a.m. and are open to participants only.
To prepare for the audition, 12 optional prep classes took place from May-July. Each 90-minute prep class included a warmup, across-the-floor technique, choreography, audition tips and question-and-answer sessions with Thunder Girls Manager Paige Carter and fitness trainer Steve Clausen.
Pre-registration for the preliminary audition Saturday is $25 and is scheduled to close on Thunder.NBA.com Thursday at 5 p.m. Walk-in registration on the day of the audition begins at 9 a.m. and is $40. Participants must be 18 or older.
The final audition will take place in front of a live audience July 30 at Riverwind Casino in Norman at 7 p.m. There is no admission charge to watch.
On average, more than 100 applicants audition annually for a spot on the team. Current Thunder Girls wishing to stay on the dance team are required to re-audition.
The Thunder Girls perform at all Thunder home games and are ambassadors for the team at community and sponsorship events. They make about 200 appearances throughout the region annually and have represented the Thunder and the NBA on eight international tours.
