An Edmond Memorial senior leader was recently honored with one of Oklahoma’s most highly coveted awards. Katie Callahan was named the 2018 Jim Thorpe Player of the Year in girls swimming late last month.
Alongside other winners, Callahan will be honored and recognized with a commemorative plaque presented at the 34th annual All-Sports and Scholar-Athlete Awards Luncheon on June 12. The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. and is held at the Jeaneen and Bob Naifeh Family and Bud Wilkinson Event Center.
Callahan helped lift her Bulldogs to a state runner-up finish this season, grabbing silver medals in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle, and participating in more second-placed state finishes as a part of the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays.
Callahan signed to swim collegiately next year with the University of Kansas during November’s early signing period.
