Deer Creek’s girls basketball roster suffered a season-ending defeat at the hands of Norman High School Thursday evening. Bri Scott led the Lady Antlers with 18 points on 50 percent shooting.
Creek’s Adrianna Carrethers walked into a 3-point splash to open the Lady Antler’s offensive aspirations Thursday evening at Edmond North High School. The momentum met with a Skylar Vann driving hook-shot for a 5-2 advantage early in the first quarter, and Kaylee Cline killed a jumper from the wing seconds before the end of the frame.
Though brief, it gave Creek their next-to-last advantage of the night, as Norman would hold a lead throughout the majority of Thursday’s second, third and fourth quarters.
That doesn’t mean Creek didn’t try and grab a lead, though. Thrice they tied things, and they even took a late lead in the fourth quarter of Thursday’s elimination contest.
Carrethers netted another 3 to open the fourth, and Angel Scott immediately followed with a 2-point make of her own. Vann then careened a Norman shot attempt off a Lady Tiger and out of bounds. The block gave possession to the Antlers, and Bri Scott buried her fifth shot in six attempts to tie it at 44.
Norman’s Kendra Gillespie would then make two of her free-throws, but Tatum Griffin tied things up at 46 with her own pair of made free-throws. Bri Scott immediately followed the free-throws with another lay-in of her own, taking a brief 48-46 Antler advantage.
Norman would make two more sets of free-throws, though, before a Brenna Burke jumper tied it at 50.
Then, disaster struck. Norman High drove to the rim on a fast-break try, and Creek was whistled on a subsequent foul call. Immediately following the call, a technical foul was given to the Antlers. The official scorers table said the technical foul was assessed to Creek’s Tatum Griffin.
Norman made three of the four ensuing free-throws before keeping possession, boosting them to a five-point edge late in the game.
Griffin splashed a 3-pointer from the wing, Vann notched a bucket after recapping her own miss, and Bri Scott netted two free-throws to bring it back to 58-57, but twice again the Lady Tigers made pairs of free-throws to win by four.
Norman’s final 11 points all came from the free-throw line, with them making 13 of their 18 fourth-quarter free-throws in a frame that saw the Lady Tigers go just 2-for-7 from the field.
Deer Creek’s Bri Scott finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Skylar Vann added another 10 points and nine boards, albeit on 5-for-16 shooting overall. Vann added another four blocks, though, and Angel Scott (six points, six rebounds, two steals and two blocks), Tatum Griffin (seven points), Adrianna Carrethers (eight points), Brenna Burke (four points), Jenna Marshall (two points, six rebounds) and Kaylee Cline (two points) rounded the scorebook out in what was the final Lady Antlers basketball game of the postseason.
