Oklahoma Christian School’s Jaxon Dowell led his Saints golf team to a 3A state championship this weekend while winning the individual state title by three overall strokes.
Dowell shot a tourney-best 63, seven-under par round during Monday’s second trip around the course, and he used the showing to propel him to 10-under overall finish. He was one of only three tourney golfers to finish under par overall after leading Monday’s staple round with a 66 in his first 18 holes.
Twice Dowell finished with the best line round-wise, missing a clean sweep by a single stroke after finishing with a 71. State runner-up Drew Goodman, of Christian Heritage, took that round with a 70.
With Dowell winning by three strokes overall, the Saints as a whole claimed the state championship crown with two more top-10 finishes outside of Dowell’s winner.
Wesley Sachs tied for fifth after rounds of 67, 72 and 74, and Carson Tewell finished seventh and two strokes behind Sachs with rounds of 74, 69 and 72 — good for a 215 overall.
Said Powers and Boston Benn rounded out the Saints’ scoring in the event, both placing within the top-15 with overall scores of 220 and 222 respectively.
