The Oklahoma Christian men’s basketball team finished their Texas road trip Saturday afternoon with a 71-53 loss to Wayland Baptist University. The loss was the Eagles’ second in a row and third in the last five games.

David Jackson led the Eagles (16-4, 8-4) in scoring with 12 points including three 3-pointers. Andre Vaughn and Chad Endres also finished in double figures with10 points apiece while Jason Taylor grabbed 11 boards.

The Eagles propelled themselves out to an 8-0 lead early in the game and led for the majority of the first period. The Eagles led 27-26 with under three minutes left in the period before Wayland’s Tommie Sanders hit the last basket of the half with 2:26 remaining to put the Pioneers ahead by one.

The Eagles never regained the lead in the second half as the Pioneers opened up the second with a 12-0 run to extend their lead to 13. Wayland Baptist continued pull away and pushed their lead to 21 points before ending the game ahead by 18 at 71-53.

The Eagles will head to Shawnee on Thursday to play Oklahoma Baptist University on the road for their next game. The men will tip off at 8 p.m. following the women’s game at 6 p.m.
