Mary Strellar and Abe Covarubbias were named the Sun’s Athletes of the Week after standout performances last week.

Strellar won the 4A girls #1 singles state tournament last week, dominating a 16-person bracket composed of some of the state’s best leading ladies. Strellar was so dominant that she only dropped a single set, winning the championship with a combined sets differential of 53-21.

Covarubbias led his Huskies over Moore in the first round of the 6A state soccer tournament last week, scoring all four goals during North’s 4-nil victory. Completing his hat trick by half time, Abe added his final goal early in the second half, scoring a second penalty kick and breaking Moore’s back all in one.
