Several summer camps and clinics are available this year for Oklahoma high school track and field athletes. Included are:
Elite Throws Camp: The second annual Midwest Elite Throws Camp will be held at William Chrisman High School, in Independence, Mo., for boys and girls interested in shot put, discus or javelin competition.
The one-day camp will be July 10 with several well-known college coaches in charge of the activities. Athletes may attend split sessions for more than one event or concentrate on just one of the three choices.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. with three, hour-long sessions prior to the lunch break and a two-hour practice session scheduled for the afternoon. This has provided college coaches excellent recruiting opportunities in the past.
Closing exercises and awards are at 3:15 p.m.
The camp director is Tyler Rathke. For more information and a registration packet, contact him at https://tinyurl.com/ThrowsCaamp19.
Thunder Road: Distance Runners Camp will be July 11-15 at the University of Oklahoma for male and female athletes in incoming grades 8-12. Campers will be running at least four miles per day, and there will be 10 sport specific lectures on Elite Level Distance Running during the sessions.
Athletes will be housed four nights in Couch Hall Residential Center on the OU Campus and all meals will be provided in addition to snacks, drinks and entertainment. Transportation will be provided to all activities.
Cost for the camp is $489 for overnight campers and $349 for day campers. Meals are included in the initial costs. Teams of five or more receive a $50 discount per person.
Drop off is at Couch Hall, 524 Asp Avenue in Norman at 4 p.m. on July 11, and pickup will be at the same time and location on July 15.
