Central Oklahoma will host the NCAA Division II Super Regional Two Wrestling Championships this Saturday and Sunday at Hamilton Field House.
The No. 6-ranked and 15-time national champion Bronchos will be one of 11 teams in the two-day tournament.
First-round action begins at noon Saturday, with the second session set for 4 p.m. The tournament resumes at noon Sunday and concludes with the placement matches (first, third and fifth) at 4 p.m.
Single-day tickets are $5 for children, students and seniors, and $10 for adults. All-session tickets are $7.50 for children, students and seniors, and $15 for adults. Tickets can be purchased by calling 974-2176 or online at www.bronchosports.com/regionaltickets.
Discount tickets are available on Sunday for fans who show a ticket to the state high school tournament that is being held Friday and Saturday in Oklahoma City.
Competing teams are Central Oklahoma, Ashland (Ohio), Limestone (S.C.), Findlay, King (Tenn.), Belmont Abbey (N.C.), Central Missouri, Lake Erie (Ohio), Ouachita Baptist (Ark.), Tiffin (Ohio) and Truman State (Mo.).
Forty berths will be up for grabs in the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships, which will be held March 9-10 in Pueblo, Colo.
The top four placers at each of the 10 weights advance to the national tournament.
The Bronchos have captured 18 regional team titles since joining NCAA Division II in 1990. UCO finished third in last year’s Super Regional Two.
UCO Coach David James is one of the legends of college wrestling, having led the Bronchos to 12 national championships and 350 dual wins.
A four-time All-American and two-time national champion when he wrestled at UCO from 1976-80, James is in his 30th year at the helm. He has a 350-125-5 dual record, which ranks 40th on the all-time win list in college wrestling history. James has coached 45 individual national champions and 169 All-Americans at UCO.
